Design potential: 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT

Opened in 2007, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT is a facility focusing on design. Interested in the latest trends in the world of design? Well, at this museum anyone can experience, and get a new view on, art and design while making surprising discoveries.

“traNslatioNs – Understanding Misunderstanding”
This exhibition, based on the idea of informatics researcher Dominique Chen that “translation is the design of communication”. The exhibition approach this theme from various angles.

The Nezu Museum is a private museum with a collection of 7,420 artworks mainly from Asia, including national treasures and important cultural properties. All explanations of the displayed works have English translations.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum

If you visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, you can get a glimpse of the residence of a Japanese royal family, the Asakanomiya family, and the cutting-edge lifestyle of Tokyo 90 years ago. Take a tour through the villa and discover now rare Art Deco furniture and interior design!

Many of the glass decorations are by French glass craftsmen René Lalique and Max Ingrand (who never got the chance to see their works here in Japan!).

Don’t miss the garden, which is divided into three areas with different tastes.

Science for everyone: Minato Science Museum

Minato Science Museum

Minato Science Museum allows children and adults to have fun playing games using the latest technology, while also learning about science. Learn about science in the city and around the Minato Ward with a hands-on games using the latest technology.


The exhibition space consists of four areas: “Nature”, “City”, “Human”, and “Sea”. In each corner, visitors are encouraged to think about familiar things in the city with a scientific approach.

One highlight of the Minato Science Museum is its planetarium. Using the latest technology, the planetarium shows the beautiful starry sky of Tokyo. It’s a powerful visual experience!

Event Information

The “Sports Exhibition,” held until May, introduces the world of sports from a scientific viewpoint. The exhibition focuses on the evolution of sports equipment, including the latest para-sports equipment.
