Sometimes, especially on weekends, don’t you feel like having a late breakfast – in other words, brunch?
In Japan, the concept of “brunch” is still new. But since Japanese people tend to always aim for 100% in every field, we now have some wonderful brunch cafes in the Roppongi and Azabu area. Let me introduce three of our top choices!
3 minutes from Tokyo Midtown! NY celebrity style brunch “Mercer Brunch”
As the name of the restaurant already contains the word “brunch”, I was really looking forward to visiting this brunch cafe.
The cafe is really close to the famous Roppongi intersection (that’s where the main exit of Roppongi station is). Outside, there were some tables on a terrace. I was thrilled. My expectation got higher and higher as the atmosphere inside the cafe was very calm and pleasant. There even was a fireplace!
There is a brunch menu as well as a (slightly cheaper) morning menu (until 11:30). I would personally recommend ordering one of the Brioche French toast sets. You can combine two slices of French toast with options such as salmon, chicken and sirloin steak. There is definitely something for everyone!
After brunch, you can also shop at nearby Tokyo Midtown or visit one of the three fantastic art museums of the “Roppongi Art Triangle”. This cafe is the perfect start for a fun day in the city!

A wonderful bakery from Karuizawa: “Bread & Tapas SAWAMURA”
The first floor of SAWAMURA is a bakery cafe and the second floor is a bar restaurant. A breakfast menu with treats such as omelet and French toast is served every morning from 7 to 10 o’clock. So for this breakfast option, you have to get up a little earlier. When entering the shop, you feel like being in a movie scene in “The Matrix” (the one with the endless rack of guns). Bread lined up in rows everywhere.
There is a nice round bar counter on the second floor – the atmosphere is different. I decided to eat on the second floor. Unfortunately, I could not order a morning menu with French toast after 10 o’clock. However, there are various lunch menus. All of them come with an all-you-can-eat bread option free of charge.
I had a “salad with broiled salmon and cream cheese” with a veggie soup. It was a cold soup – perfect for summer. Also, the bread was delicious! With my belly filled with mellow cream cheese, fresh salmon and vegetables I felt full and satisfied!
Either you have your meal on the first or the second floor, I’m sure you’ll like it. I bought delicious bread on the way home for breakfast for the next morning. By the way, the area is great for going for a walk. How about a stroll after brunch in the Roppongi and Azabujuban area?

Lots of “eggcellent” choices! “eggcellent” at Roppongi Hills
“eggcellent” is located on the 1st floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower (Hillside). When entering the shop, you will see a spacious kitchen on the lefthand side. This restaurant is famous for its egg dishes. That might be the reason why everything in the store is egg-shaped.
Organic eggs used in this restaurant are purchased every morning from the Kurofuji farm in Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at an altitude of 1100m. The eggs from chicken raised in a stress-free environment are exquisite! Because the eggs are so fresh, you will be able to enjoy their soft flavor and sweetness regardless of the dish you order.
The most popular menu is called “Half & Half Benedict”. It’s Eggs Benedict with an English muffin and bacon, with a “rice Benedict” that comes with a special miso sauce and quinoa.
Besides the meal menu, the egg tarts are also a very popular as a souvenir or as a gift.
The egg restaurant “eggcellent” at Roppongi Hills is easy-to-access. It’s the perfect place for breakfast and brunch – but it’s also a nice afternoon tea option. The shop has seasonal limited menus and fun events, so don’t miss it if you are in the area!
