Vegetarians and Vegans welcome! Healthy fresh vegetable buffet at the beer terrace of “Happo-en”

“HAPPO-EN” in Shirokanedai is known for its beautiful Japanese garden. After strolling in the garden, enjoy a healthy and relaxing time with fresh vegetables and delicious craft beer at the “Farm to Table Beer Terrace 2019”, which is open only during the summer months!

A walk in the park – ehm, garden!

Meeting the koi fish!

The HAPPO-EN Garden, which has a history of more than 100 years, has a large pond, a small waterfall, and a tea house.

The lush green everywhere in the garden is very calming and relaxing. You can even book a tea ceremony experience at the tea house!

Relaxing on the beer terrace overlooking the garden

If you want to sit down and have a drink after your stroll through the Japanese garden, why don’t you visit the “Thrush Cafe”? Right now, this restaurant has a beer terrace event which is going on until August 31st.

What a great panoramic view of the garden!

The beer terrace offers a menu (reservation required) that includes free drinks, an appetizer plate, a healthy vegetable buffet, and vegetable pasta. This sounds healthy, right? Also, it’s a great choice for vegetarians and vegans -which is still quite rare in Tokyo with limited meal options.

With fresh vegetables from contract farmers who care about reducing pesticides and organic farming, you feel good about digging in.

If you do like to have a meat dish, you can change the pasta to meat, or order it as an additional dish.

The veggies have a rich taste and are…well, delicious!

I was very impressed with the homemade dressings.

At the beer terrace, you can choose from the all-you-can-drink menu, offering an original craft beer called “Farm to Ale Kaoru Weizen” and “Asahi Extra Cold”. Japan has grown as a craft beer making country and the beer at the restaurant was a good example of the Japanese brewers’ skills.

It was delicious and exactly the kind of taste you’d ask for when relaxing outside on a beer terrace. For anyone interested in Japanese craft beer, this restaurant is a great choice. In addition to the beer, the all-you-can-drink menu has several cocktails using their vegetables and whiskey.

Cheers!

After a stroll through the lovely Japanese garden, why don’t you relax on the quiet beer terrace?

I was born and raised in Kiel/Germany. When I was 16 I came to Japan for the first time. I fell in love with this beautiful country, so I returned after my university graduation. Since then, I have been living in Tokyo - and I don't plan to change anything about that ;-) My hobbies are taking a stroll around the city, taking photos and drinking coffee.
