How to stay cool in Tokyo’s hot summer:  a mosquito-free indoor beer garden and chilled summer desserts

August in Tokyo is very hot! After a day of sightseeing outside, why don’t you cool down in a luxurious and cool environment – like at the indoor beer garden of the hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay or in its stylish lounge with some delicious desserts?

An indoor beer garden with a fantastic course menu

The hotel’s indoor beer garden facing Tokyo Bay is a great place to spend time without worrying about the heat, mosquito bites or sudden rain showers!

Cheers!

Sommer in Japan is hot, humid and tiring. The fatigue caused by this hot and humid weather is called “natsubate”. Luckily the motto of the hotel’s beer garden is preventing and combating natsubate!

Melon beer?! Well, try it!

The course menu includes a comparison of beef, pork and chicken, beer garden-style snacks, such as edamame beans, and soup curry, which is a famous dish from northern Japan. The variety of course meals is great, the food is delicious, and hopefully, after dining here you will feel like the natsubate is gone for good.

The chicken soup curry with Japanese peppers, paprika and eggplant is exactly what you’d want to eat in summer. Spices for power and strength!

The beer garden course menu includes drinks such as beer, sparkling wine, wine, and fruit-flavored cocktails – all in all for a very reasonable price.

Choose from a variety of drinks.

If you win at a card game, everyone in the group will get a small dessert!

Cocktail parfaits with fruit, shaved ice, cream, and alcohol!

The New York Lounge at InterContinental Tokyo Bay offers a special summer dessert – the “Foamy Ice Parfait” (“awagori” parfait) – for a limited time. Each of the three parfaits is a dessert and a cocktail at the same time.

The stylish New York Lounge InterContinental Tokyo Bay

This summer, the shaved ice trend in Japan is creamy “foam” as a topping.

There are a passion fruit and mango parfait with coconut liqueur, a peach and raspberry parfait with champagne, and a muscat parfaits with white wine. Choose from a slightly sweet or a parfait for grownups with stronger liquor.

Look at the decorations with gold leaves, it is created to look like “ice”. You can feel the Japanese sense of beauty in the details and craftsmanship.

The parfaits are a harmony of fruit and “booze”, perfect for adults who want to enjoy a cool dessert while having a drink at the same time.

The parfaits are available until September 5th. You have to hurry!

Fight “natsubate” with cool drinks and desserts!

This summer, boba (tapioca) drinks are a big trend in Tokyo!

I was born and raised in Kiel/Germany. When I was 16 I came to Japan for the first time. I fell in love with this beautiful country, so I returned after my university graduation. Since then, I have been living in Tokyo - and I don't plan to change anything about that ;-) My hobbies are taking a stroll around the city, taking photos and drinking coffee.
