Sleepover in Tokyo (2)! Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay

This time, two “Visit Minato City” reporters made a “luxurious girls trip” and stayed at the “Hotel Intercontinental Tokyo Bay”. Due to its good location, you have a great view from this hotel. Also, they have a lot of restaurants  to choose from and nice services for foreign tourists.

Hotel Intercontinental Tokyo Bay

The Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay is located right next to Sumida river and Tokyo Bay

“Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay” is a very stylish 5-star hotel in the Tokyo Bay area. This hotel is located near JR Hamamatsucho Station, from where you can go directly to Haneda Airport by Tokyo Monorail without any transfer. There is also a free shuttle bus from JR Shinagawa Station and Hamamatsucho Station to the hotel, which is very convenient if you have a lot of luggage. From Narita Airport, you can go directly to the hotel by the so-called “Airport Limousine Bus”.

For Tokyo, the hotel rooms are quite spacious!

A lovely view overlooking the Tokyo Bay area

From the big windows of the large rooms you can look over Tokyo’s waterfront: Tokyo Bay or Sumida river (depending on the room).

In the evening, the terrace of “Champagne Bar Manhattan” is the place to go. You can enjoy the night view of Tokyo Bay while drinking champagne and cocktails. There are no buildings blocking the view. With the majestic Rainbow Bridge right in front of you, it’s a very romantic location.

Because the hotel faces Tokyo Bay, you immediately arrive at the coastal promenade of Tokyo Bay when you step out of the hotel’s rear entrance. Feel the refreshing sea breeze in the morning, while watching ships going by.

You can go for a walk to the Tokyo Bay – it’s just outside the hotel

Fantastic cuisine – also for the eye

Meals at the restaurants in this hotel are special experiences. At the “Rainbow Bridge View Dining” you can enjoy a course meal while looking at the illuminated Rainbow Bridge (as the restaurant’s name suggests). The characteristic of this restaurant is its “New York Grill French” cuisine. Based on French cuisine, it is a new cuisine incorporating authentic New York grill style and “aged beef” which is a big trend in Japan.

When you eat in the Teppanyaki restaurant “Takumi” you can sit at a counter seat and watch the chef grilling right in front of you. Our reporters were overwhelmed by the dynamic flame performance!

At “Chef’s Live Kitchen”, you can have a healthy breakfast. Their breakfast buffet includes Japanese style, Chinese style, and Western style breakfast with fruits and even green smoothies.

A healthy breakfast is the perfect start for a long and exciting day

So what about tea time? In the afternoon, you can enjoy an afternoon tea set at the fashionable “New York Lounge”.

Tourist friendly service

If you are undecided about where to go in Tokyo, the concierge in the lobby will help you out. (There are also English native staff!) They will suggest an activity suitable for every person.
Our two reporters decided to rent a Japanese yukata and go for a cruise. At the yukata rental service, you can pick your favorite yukata, and then get help getting dressed. There even is a hair and makeup service available.

From “Hinode Passenger Terminal (Hinode Sanbashi)” in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you can go to various places such as Odaiba and Asakusa by waterbus. This time, we went on a cruise to Asakusa. The futuristic boat goes up the Sumida river and arrives at Asakusa in about 35 minutes. You pass places like  the famous Tsukiji market and get the rare chance to see the city from a completely different angle.

On the tour back (from Asakusa), you get the change to go outside on the open deck

arriving at Asakusa, you can also look at the SKYTREE, a new landmark in Tokyo, from the ship. After getting off at Asakusa, you can go back to the hotel by waterbus after doing some sightseeing in yukata – which is the perfect outfit for Asakusa and the Sensoji temple.

How did you like the hotel and the Bay Area of Tokyo?

I was born and raised in Kiel/Germany. When I was 16 I came to Japan for the first time. I fell in love with this beautiful country, so I returned after my university graduation. Since then, I have been living in Tokyo - and I don't plan to change anything about that ;-) My hobbies are taking a stroll around the city, taking photos and drinking coffee.
