Dining at Gonpachi is an exceptional experience you won’t forget. “Gonpachi”, which has been visited by the US President amongst many others, is world-renowned for being the model of the action scene of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Vol. 1” movie. Excited? Well, let’s step inside!
A restaurant like a movie set
“Gonpachi” resembles a traditional Japanese-style warehouse. It’s huge! Inside the restaurant, you feel like being on the set for “Kill Bill”, which is actually not strange at all. The reason for that is because the restaurant “House of Blue Leaves” set with the spectacular fighting scene in the popular movie “Kill Bill Vol. 1”, is actually inspired by the atmosphere of “Gonpachi”!
So, how about the food? Actually, I was really surprised by the variety of dishes. From homemade Soba noodles, grilled Japanese wagyu beef and vegetable skewers barbecued on a charcoal grill, to dashi egg rolls and crispy tempura. You’ll find almost every popular Japanese dishes here. That’s impressive!
With something to suit every taste, together with the rustic atmosphere, dining at Gonpachi is a special and satisfying experience.
A hidden gem within the Kill Bill Restaurant!
“Gonpachi” is well-known for being the “Kill Bill Restaurant”, but did you know that the building has a third floor?
Climbing up the stairs to “SUSHI Gonpachi Nishi Azabu”, you find a large dining room suited for banquets, a sushi bar with counter seating (and a sushi chef showing off his techniques), private rooms for groups, and a relaxing terrace seat. You can order à la carte or a course meal, depending on what works best for the occasion!
During the summer-limited “SUSHI x BEER GARDEN” event, there even is an all-you-can-drink plan for two hours, including either four types of beer with some snacks, or the much fancier, luxurious sushi plan.
Needless to say that the sushi made by sushi masters is excellent! The peaceful rooftop terrace “SUSHI Gonpachi Nishi Azabu” is a perfect dating spot or for a special celebration, while the restaurant on the 1st and 2nd floor is ideal for groups and casual occasions.
Once you learn about all the different parts of the restaurant, it’s difficult to decide where to go. Well, if you want the whole Gonpachi experience, you should visit more than once!
