Travel the world inside Minato City, Tokyo! Minato City World Festival 2020

World Karneval

Minato City in Tokyo is one of the most international wards in Tokyo. Many foreigners live and work in this area where more than half of the embassies in Japan are located. Every year, from January to March, a special event is held in Minato City that will make you discover the diversity of cultures in the city. Enjoy the “Minato City World Festival 2020”!

① Visit embassies from all over the world! “Minato City Stamp Rally of Embassies and Diplomatic Missions”

Period: Wednesday, January 15 – Friday, March 27, 2020

During the event “Rally of Embassies and Diplomatic Missions”, you may enter some of the embassies. Usually, most embassies aren’t open to the public. Therefore, this event is your chance to take a glimpse of different countries and cultures! If you collect stamps at embassies and cultural facilities, you can participate in the “Minato Ward World Carnival” lottery held on March 29.

Furthermore, this year for the first time, some embassies outside of Minato City are joining the event, so you can visit embassies and cultural facilities that you couldn’t visit before!

This is the “passport” required for the stamp rally. You can pick it up at the tourist information center on the 3rd floor of Hamamatsucho Station (Tokyo Monorail), Minato City Office, or at many hotels.

② Find a new favorite! “Minato City Shopping Street World Stamp Rally”

Period: Friday, January 17 – Thursday, March 26, 2020

For each collected stamp, you may take your chance at the “Minato City World Carnival” lottery held on March 29. What makes this event so charming is that you get the chance to try out new restaurants and shops. Especially for those who have been living in Japan for a while, this is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try something new!

I was born and raised in Kiel/Germany. When I was 16 I came to Japan for the first time. I fell in love with this beautiful country, so I returned after my university graduation. Since then, I have been living in Tokyo - and I don't plan to change anything about that ;-) My hobbies are taking a stroll around the city, taking photos and drinking coffee.
