Gourmet, Nature,

Not Terrace House… but terrace cafes with delicious sweets in Aoyama!

Feeling the sunshine on your skin while taking a walk on a sunny day is a relaxing pleasure that leads to a sunny and positive mindset. Take a break at a café with terrace seating and enjoy some delicious sweets! The best place to do so is the fashionable Aoyama and Omotesando area in Tokyo!

‘Cafe & Dining Zelkova’ where you can experience a small tea ceremony

The Strings Omotesando is a restaurant and wedding venue facing the fancy Omotesando avenue. Café & Dining Zelkova is a restaurant on the first floor, perfect for a sophisticated teatime.

The terrace seats at Zelkova face Omotesando. “People watching” made easy!

Zelkova regularly offers seasonal menus that are known for being super playful and chic. The theme this time is “a small tea ceremony experience”.

Tea ceremony matcha set (The whisk is called ‘chasen‘)

For the small tea ceremony experience, just pour hot water into a bowl with matcha powder, and use the small bamboo chasen whisk to prepare the matcha yourself. (It is so much fun!!)

Preparing matcha

Anmitsu (and matcha tiramisu)

The combination of the subtle bitterness of matcha, the rich taste of the cute “Uji Matcha Tiramisu” and the sweet Shiratama Anmitsu’ (a traditional dessert with beans, fruit, and jelly) is great. All of the ingredients are carefully selected and everything is very delicious!
* “Japanese tea set” ¥ 2,600; from March 3rd (Tue) to July 2nd (Thu), 2020.

The best pancake on a comfortable terrace

Another highly recommended terrace cafe is crisscross. It is located in Minami-Aoyama, a neighborhood close to the Omotesando crossing known for its high brand shops and galleries. Crisscross is a small cafe but with a large terrace that features a camphor tree right in the middle of it.

The cafe’s motto is “All day cafe”, meaning that you can enjoy their delicious cafe treats from the morning until after the sun goes down.

Enjoy a teatime outside even after it is getting dark (If you are from a more northern country you might feel that the sun in Japan sets rather early)

The mouthwatering buttermilk pancakes at “crisscross” needs a special mention. You HAVE to try them!

Macadamia buttermilk pancakes with whipped cream. So good!

The three pancakes make for quite a big portion, but believe me when I tell you: they will be gone in a heartbeat! Be sure to try one of the homemade drinks, too!

I was born and raised in Kiel/Germany. When I was 16 I came to Japan for the first time. I fell in love with this beautiful country, so I returned after my university graduation. Since then, I have been living in Tokyo - and I don't plan to change anything about that ;-) My hobbies are taking a stroll around the city, taking photos and drinking coffee.
