Animal cafes are very popular in Japan. Gently stroking and observing animals is a lot of fun and very relaxing. “Roppongi HARRY” has a ‘Hedgehog Cafe’ and ‘Hamster Cafe’ in the same building. Making it the best spot to meet the cutest furry (and spiky) mammals in Tokyo!
Meet the hedgehogs!
Inside the hedgehog café, you’ll find sofas and chairs, but no tables. Instead, each seating comes with something like a crib or hay box with some sawdust inside. After properly disinfecting your hands (for the sake of the animals) and putting on gloves (for the sake of your hands), the staff will bring the hedgehogs to the “table”.
You can watch the hedgehogs, give them some treats, gently pet them with a finger. You may also lift it carefully with both hands. So cute!
The cafe also sells their hedgehogs. Each hedgehog has a different personality, so you can come here the find the right match for both you and the hedgehog. I think that it is actually very good for the wellbeing of the hedgehog when someone interested in buying one as a pet can learn how to properly take care and how to handle hedgehogs BEFORE buying a spiky friend.
Meet the hamsters!
Next, we went up to the 3rd floor to meet the hamsters.
As a kid, my sister once had a hamster as a pet. Therefore, I held a hamster in my hands for the first time in a long time. It was so small, soft…and very energetic! When I put it back in the box, the hamster started running around and exercising in his running wheel.
Time flew by. While at the cafe, I saw a lot of foreign tourists visiting the cafe. That’s understandable. The animal cafe experience will turn into an unforgettable memory of your Japan trip to Japan for sure! If you make a reservation in advance on the official website, you won’t have to wait and everything will go smoothly.
So, head to Roppongi and visit “Roppongi HARRY” during your stay!
